Software upgrade dated December 15, 1988
SuperPatch 3.0 ----------------- for AW 2.0 & 2.1 (Filename: SUPERPATCH.30)
Public domain by John Link
=============================================================================O
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||O
=============================================================================
Summary of changes in this upgrade:%
-----------------------------------
L There are three major improvements: 1) SuperPatch now recognizes which P
Nversion of AppleWorks it is patching and adjusts its operations accordingly. P
NThus, there will no longer be two versions of the SuperPatch, each aimed at a N
Lspecific version of AW. SuperPatch 3.0 copes with both releases at the 2.x M
Klevel; 2) Thanks to Stephen Weyhrich, SuperPatch will size the desktop for N
L//e and //c folks who use slinky type RAMcards--see the description of that K
Ipatch for more info; 3) SuperPatch will now patch SEG.PR for half-height 8
sub/superscripting if you are using an ImageWriter II.
H With these two new patches, SuperPatch now installs/de-installs 29
patches on 8-bit AppleWorks.
I This upgrade also fixes a couple of bugs in the operation of former L
Jversions of this program, and adds a much better routine for locating the P
Ndata byte Ultra.System stores for use by its <find> command, so that the bent L
Jarrow carriage return symbol patch works better with UMW. I also noticed E
Cthat users of 5.25 disks were not prompted to insert the disk when P
NUltra.System and/or Super.System was about to be patched, and since SEG.M1 is P
Nso large that no room exists to place these files on the same side with it on K
Ia 5.25 disk, I wonder why no one ever raised the problem. Anyhow, it is L
Jfixed. Joe Bradley and Wally Bradford together pointed out some problems N
Lwith the "Don't disable boldface" patch, and Wally suggested some different &
patch locations which resolved them.
I The special options portion of the menus have been changed, because L
Jthere are now three files patched by SuperPatch. The previous "[S]witch" I
Goption is now replaced with "[1]...[2]...[3]" with the command for the
current menu disabled.
K Making room for the new features, especially the ability to cope with N
Lboth current versions of AW simultaneously, was not easy. It was necessary O
Mto remove much of the "text prompting" in previous versions of SuperPatch to P
Naccomplish these goals. Therefore, these Dox are more important than before, P
Nas the information once presented during the process of patching is now found
here, and nowhere else.

N Information about patches for AppleWorks and programs which install them O
Mabound. SuperPatch is an effort to collect those which seem most useful and P
Nproven into a single program. Such a program could not be undertaken without O
Mthe sense of community which occurs with such intensity between the hundreds O
Mof thousands of Apple // owners. No other computer seems to inspire so many N
L"casual" users to delve so deeply into the inner secrets of their machines, L
Jand freely offer the fruits of their investigations for others to use and P
Nenjoy. Eight-bit AppleWorks is the focus of many of these activities because M
Kit is the standard against which every other piece of Apple // software is P
Nmeasured, and consequently, it is the program most of us use everyday, as the M
Kleading productivity software for the //. Tom Weishaar, Randy Brandt, and N
LAlan Bird come to mind immediately as leaders in this information sharing. N
LBut many others are making equally valuable contributions: Mark Munz, Garth O
MShultz, Stephen Weyhrich, Joe Bradley, Wally Bradford, Rick Oshlo, and many, M
Kmany others...including Claris itself, which had provided good information
about patches which fix bugs.
L I am especially grateful to the many BBS SysOps around the country who N
Lhave "propagated" SuperPatch throughout the AppleWorks community, by making L
Jit available in their file transfer areas. There is a very real sense of L
Jsatisfaction in knowing this program is useful to so many fellow Apple // P
Nmavens, many of whom have taken the trouble to let me know they like it, even M
Kas they notify me of problems. And some have simply let me know they like "
it. (Believe it or not <grin>!)
-------------
Introduction:
-------------
K SuperPatch patches only areas it "understands" well enough to proceed P
Nconfidently with making changes, and refuses to alter those which it reads as H
F"unknown." Depending upon how likely I thought problems might occur, N
LSuperPatch checks from one to six bytes before it decides whether it knows N
Lwhat it is doing. If you are using a 1.x version of AppleWorks, SuperPatch P
Nwill refuse to run. If your version of AW has areas patched differently than I
Gthe patches SuperPatch installs, it is likely that those areas will be M
Kregarded as "unknown," and SuperPatch will not respond to the toggle which N
Lwould normally change such an area. The solution, in such a case, would be P
Nto start over with a fresh copy of AppleWorks, or to continue to use whatever 4
method you have been using to mange those changes.
L The examination of AppleWorks SuperPatch performs is useful in itself, N
Lsince many of us forget exactly which patches are installed on this or that M
Kcopy of our favorite program. SuperPatch will quickly inform you what has M
Kbeen done, and whether the file belongs to AW 2.0 or 2.1. "Factory fresh" N
Lcode is returned as "normal," and patched code as "installed." You will be D
Bnotified of the version number the first time SuperPatch looks at K
IAPLWORKS.SYSTEM, and it appears at the top of each menu. SuperPatch, of G
Ecourse, installs 29 patches to 8-bit AppleWorks, but more important, N
Lde-installs them too. This is accomplished by a software toggle. Pressing N
Lthe letter corresponding to the patch described on the menu alters the file C
Aso that "normal" code is replaced by the patch code, and patched 9
("installed") code is replaced by factory fresh code.
N SuperPatch _always_ looks at APLWORKS.SYSTEM first, and assumes that the L
Jother files to be patched are taken from the same release of AppleWorks. K
IThere is no way to bypass the first look at APLWORKS.SYSTEM, since it is O
Mcritical to the correct operation of the program. After the first look, you 7
can move between the various menus whenever you like.
K As a precaution, there is no error trapping in SuperPatch. Better to O
Mcrash into BASIC than mess up a file. And besides, the BASIC error messages N
Lare quite informative, so that you will know what to look for in correcting M
Kthe problem. Generally speaking, the most frequent problems are using the M
Kwrong version of AW and getting the prefix wrong. You will also get error J
Hmessages if you answer the question about the Beagle Bros macro program K
Iincorrectly. You will all unknowns in APLWORKS.SYSTEM if you answer the K
IPinpoint question wrong, since Pinpoint adds a $3500 byte header to that
file.
AND...never attempt to patch original disks. Right? Right...
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++0
SuperPatch: first screen and general operationO
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
L If you answer the several questions SuperPatch asks you correctly, you P
Nshould have no problems with the rest of the program. Defaults are expressed G
Eas capital letters; in some instances "Y," and in others "N," so pay 8
attention to them until you get to know how they work.
K The answer to the first question, regarding the use of large capacity L
Jstorage devices, determines whether or not SuperPatch will prompt you for K
Idisk insertions when it is changing files. If you are using 143 K (5,25 P
Ninch) floppies, SuperPatch assumes each one has the same volume name, as they I
Gdo in Claris's official disks. For those with larger capacity storage N
Ldevices who are curious, answering "N" won't hurt anything, and you will be #
able to see how the prompts work.
M The second question regards "slinky-type" RAM cards. If you accept the L
Jdefault "N," the option on the APLWORKS.SYS menu to size the desktop will J
Happear with a "n/a," meaning that it is not relevant to your version of P
NAppleWorks. There does not appear to be any harm in answering "Y" if you are L
Jusing a //gs, since AppleWork's memory manager will lock out this code in O
Mthat case anyway. The specific aspect of AppleWorks addressed by this patch @
is the size of "SYS.DESKTOP." See below for more information.
L You will be asked if you are using an ImageWriter next. If you accept P
Nthe default "Y," you will be able to install the sub/superscript patch in the @
SEG.PR menu. "N" will return this patch possibility as "n/a."
L The question about Beagle Bros macro programs is very important, since M
Kthe answer determines the name of the file SuperPatch will look for, as it A
?begins the patching session. The Beagle macro programs change O
MAPLWORKS.SYSTEM to APLWORKS.SYS. If you give SuperPatch the wrong answer to M
Kthis question it will crash with an error message from BASIC. Type "RUN," <
hit return, and answer it correctly the next time through.
I Of key importance is the query for the volume (and subdirectory) in M
Kwhich AppleWorks is located. There are no defaults in SuperPatch for this N
Linformation. So you have to get it right, and be sure to precede it with a O
Mslash (/). If you miss, you will get an error message when SuperPatch tries O
Mto access the volume, and a BASIC prompt. Just type "RUN," press return and "
answer the questions over again.
L HOWEVER, if you locate SuperPatch in the same directory as AW, and set H
Fthe prefix to that subdirectory before you run it (as you can do with L
JProSEL), then it is not necessary to enter the volume and subdirectory at I
this query. Just hit return and SuperPatch will go about its business.
L After this point, operation of the program is almost automatic, except O
Mfor disk insertion, when you are using a single 143k drive. To repeat: When P
NSuperPatch looks at the files you direct it toward, it analyzes several bytes P
Nin each patch area. In most cases the results are reported as either "normal P
N(factory fresh code)" or "installed (patched)," or "unknown." If the latter, G
ESuperPatch will not respond to any requests to change it. This is a L
Jprecaution which is long overdue, as far as I can see, in the business of P
Npublic domain patch programs, including some I have written, which usually go L
Jahead and install their patch, no matter what is right or wrong about the J
Hfile to be patched. SuperPatch's standard for "normalcy" is a "factory
fresh" copy of AppleWorks.
L There are some exceptions to the normal-patched-unknown descriptions. N
LSuperPatch returns "changed" as a result from its look at your cursor blink P
Nrate, instead of "installed," if it is not "normal." There are many possible Q
Ocombinations of the parameters which control this functioning. For AW 2.0 the M
K"no return" area is reported as "143k norm" or "800k norm," depending upon O
Mwhether the code is from the 143k (5.25) disk or the 800k disk, if the patch N
Lis not installed. For Aw 2.1, no such differentiation is made, but for the M
Krecord, the official 800k release code is the same as was found on the 2.0 L
J143k disks. (I do not have the 143k release disks for 2.1.) The desktop O
Msizer option returns either normal or the actual size of the current desktop O
Mconfiguration (or unknown). And in certain cases, "n/a" is returned, either K
Ibecause of your response to one of the initial questions, or because the K
Ispecific patch is not relevant to version 2.1 of AppleWorks. These last
exceptions are noted below.
N SuperPatch changes your files when you choose an option from a menu, via O
Ma toggle. If the patch area was found to be normal, SuperPatch patches it. L
JAnd vice-versa. The two exceptions to this are the cursor blink rate and J
Hdesktop sizing options: They take you to BlinkerWorks and SlinkyWorks, J
Hrespectively, where the various options are explained, and your current M
Ksettings displayed. BlinkerWorks does not have any real effect if you use O
Mthe Beagle Bros macro programs, and so SuperPatch will not let you in if you K
Iare using either of those macro programs, in case future versions of the @
macro programs would have problems if these areas are patched.
I Generally speaking, it is best to exit SuperPatch via the [Q]uit or P
N[P]rodos BYE commands, especially if you are just done patching SEG.M1, since M
KSuperPatch unlocks SEG.M1 (in AW 2.0) when it looks at it, and re-locks it N
Lwhen you either quit or switch to the other menu. (On AW 2.1, SuperPatch no @
longer unlocks this file, since it is not distributed locked.)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
SuperPatch: Specific APLWORKS.SYS patchesO
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[A] No spacebar on boot-up.................................(2.0 & 2.1)
J The "no space bar" patch has been around for a long time. It speeds P
Nentry into AW if it is run from an 800k or larger storage device. For owners P
Nof Applied Engineering memory expansion boards, the option to de-install this M
Kpatch should prove handy, since the space-bar menu is where you access the .
Applied Engineering menu by pressing escape.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[B] No return after date...................................(2.0 & 2.1)
N The "no return" patch is useful if you have a clock, as AppleWorks reads P
Nin the current date automatically in that case, but still requires a press of
the return key to confirm it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[C] Overstrike instead of insert cursor on boot-up.........(2.0 & 2.1)
N This is a one byte patch which enables you to start out overwriting your D
mistakes, instead of pushing them toward the end of your document.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[D] Enter control-@ into printer codes.....................(2.0 only)
L If you are using AW 2.1, SuperPatch will return "n/a" for this option, K
Isince it was fixed by Claris for that release of AW. The ImageWriter II L
Jlikes to see control-@'s before it will do some of the things it can do. N
LFactory fresh AppleWorks 2.0 does no let you enter them. This patch will. L
JIt is based upon information released by Claris regarding the fix, before L
Jthey released 2.1. If your version of AW 2.0 was patched with one of the O
Mother versions of the fix for this problem, you may get an "unknown" in this C
Aoption. The solution is to start with a "factory fresh" copy of
APLWORKS.SYSTEM.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
[E] Change insert cursor to flashing solid apple...........(2.0 & 2.1)
M A cosmetic patch which makes the insert cursor easier to see. It is no !
big deal, but nice nonetheless.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
[F] Eliminate NDA loading bug..............................(2.0 only)
M If you are using AW 2.1, SuperPatch returns "n/a" for this option. The M
KNDA loading bug has been well discussed in Open-Apple, and I can't imagine I
Ganyone who uses AW 2.0 on a gs not wanting to eradicate it, as it will O
Mprevent AW from loading under certain circumstances. It contributes nothing L
Jto AppleWorks that anyone has described, but can cause several subtle and O
Mnot-so-subtle problems. If you want, though, SuperPatch will re-install the 1
bug for you. Claris has fixed this bug in 2.1.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[G] Eliminate expansion card preloading....................(2.0 & 2.1)
N Most AppleWorkers want AppleWorks to load into any expansion memory they O
Mhave, in which case there is no need to install this patch. However, if you P
Nrun AppleWorks from a ROM disk, or RAM disk, there is no reason to wait while N
Lit rearranges itself in memory, so patch it. The technique SuperPatch uses N
Lis compatible with TimeOut and the Applied Engineering expansion software. K
IIn the case of AE, you can use the SuperPatch version, and eliminate the O
Mnecessity of de-installing the "no space bar" patch to access their "escape"
menu.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[H] Change error tone to beep..............................(2.0 & 2.1)
M The error tone patch has been around a long time. Some people like the M
Kregular buzz better, since it SOUNDS like you made a mistake, instead of a ?
reward-like, friendly little beep. Have it however you want.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[I] Cursor blink rate......................................(2.0 & 2.1)
K If you are using a Beagle Bros macro program, SuperPatch returns this G
Eoption as "n/a." Otherwise, it takes you to BlinkerWorks, where the I
instructions for how to change your blink rate are built into the menu.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[J] Continuous display of desktop space....................(2.0 & 2.1)
I At certain times AW displays "oa-?" in the lower left corner. This P
Npatch will cause it to _always_ display the space left on the desktop there. P
NIf you are using Applied Engineering's expansion software, there is an option O
Mwhich causes AppleWorks to display the time in place of the "oa-?" message. O
MThis patch will replace the time message with the available desktop message, :
so you would probably not want to use it in such a case.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[K] Check mark instead of arrow when menu item selected....(2.0 & 2.1)
I Cosmetic (and appealing) change from the old fashioned "-->" to the O
Mnew-fashioned mousetext check mark. There is a similar patch for SEG.1--see
below.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[L] No return after pressing number of menu selected.......(2.0 & 2.1)
H A potent patch which leaves the movement of the inverse cursor bar N
L"normal" but causes any press of a number to cause instant execution of the N
Lcommand with that number. Not a very good patch if you use macros, as they N
will go crazy unless you adjust them for the new procedure. Otherwise neat.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[M] Limit Desktop expansion into slinky-type RAMcards......(2.0 & 2.1)
N On a //e or //c, AppleWorks has a nasty habit of hogging all the room on P
Nthe RAMdisk. This patch, which was first developed by John Stephenson for AW N
L1.3 and 2.0, will prevent that, leaving room on the RAMdisk for storing and P
Nsaving other files. Stephen Weyhrich was kind enough to re-work Stephenson's M
Kpatch for AW 2.1, and to develop a patch for SuperPatch which installed it F
Dinto the previous two versions of SuperPatch. He also offered good P
Nsuggestions for "compacting" SuperPatch so that it had room for including the O
Madditional code required for coping with both versions of the 2.x release of H
FAppleWorks. SuperPatch returns "normal" or the size of the currently O
Mapportioned desktop for this option, if you have answered the question about M
KRAMcards in the affirmative. If you said "N," then it will return "n/a." O
MSlinkyWorks itself contains sufficient information to enable you to make the O
Mpatch. However, be warned that if you make your desktop too large, you will L
Jdefeat the purpose, by leaving insufficient room for other files. On the L
Jother hand, if you make it too small, AppleWorks will not expand onto the L
Jcard, and you will suffer the delays associated with disk accessing as it -
loads in the various overlays and segments.
M As far as I know, this patch does not work on "bank-switched" RAMcards, P
Nsince the code in AppleWorks for creating SYS.DESKTOP does not recognize such K
Icards. Bank switched cards (MultiRam, RamWorks, etc.) usually come with K
Isoftware which accomplishes the same goal. "Slink-type" cards are those O
Mwhich function according to the Apple memory expansion rules, streaming data P
Nin and out of the card much like a "real-life slinky" moves itself from place G
Eto place, one ring at a time. Apple's cards and RamFactor cards are
examples.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++%
SuperPatch: Specific SEG.M1 patchesO
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[A] Print up to 255 copies in the WP, DB, and SS...........(2.0 & 2.1)
E Expands the possibilities from the factory fresh limit of nine. O
MInstalling this patch causes no problems that I have ever heard of, however, P
Nit is much more efficient to use a copy machine for printing large numbers of &
documents, and probably cheaper too.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[B, C, D, E] Various printer patches.......................(2.0 & 2.1)
K These patches all operate in the same manner. They first appeared in F
DOpen-Apple (naturally) as a single location patch, with a corrected O
Mdouble-location version coming out later. SuperPatch installs the corrected P
Nversion, and will regard as "unknown" any file that contains a partial patch. J
HUseful mainly to those who change the original meaning of these printer N
Lcodes; I recommend against using them for any other purpose, as the operate P
Nin a somewhat erratic manner, and can confuse some printers. Moreover, there M
Khave been reports that the "Don't disable boldface patch" can mess up Mail P
Nmerge in AW 2.1, though I believe the current patch locations, as provided by P
NWally Bradford, will not interfere with Mail merge. I considered leaving all H
four out of this rewrite of the software, but was persuaded otherwise.
I Thanks especially to Wally Bradford and Joe Bradley for information N
Labout these patches. Wally suggested slightly different locations for them N
Lin 2.1, and Joe told me how the first version messed up Mail merge. Beagle P
NBros DeskTools II has some terrific TO accessories, including PrinterManager, L
Jwhich does everything these patches do, only better. You should consider
getting it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[F] Allow up to 116 files in a subdirectory................(2.0 only)
J If you are using AW 2.1, SuperPatch returns a "n/a" for this option, M
Ksince Claris fixed the problem, allowing up to 138 files, on that version, M
Kand the patch is no longer relevant. AppleWorkers with hard drives found E
Cout that AppleWorks has big problems when it finds more files in a M
Ksubdirectory than it has room to sort. SuperPatch increases the number of M
Kfiles which can be sorted from about 65 to 116, for those who like to look =
through long lists of files, before they load something in.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[G] Change <cr> character to bent arrow in WP..............(2.0 & 2.1)
N Cosmetic patch which many, myself included, like. SuperPatch will patch N
LBeagle macro programs so that they work properly with this patch also, even P
Nif you use both SMW and UMW together. Single 143k disk drive users will need H
Fto flip their disk over before SuperPatch can alter the macro file to L
Jrecognize the new end of line character. Bent arrows are getting to be a O
Muniversal signifier for a so-called "hard carriage return" in word processor H
Fdocuments. With this patch installed, you will notice that, when the K
Ioverstrike cursor is active, and over a carriage return with the zoom-in M
Kactivated, it will flash an inverse "M" instead of a blank inverse space. $
The insert cursor is not affected.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[H] Retain cursor location when WP file is loaded..........(2.0 & 2.1)
L Of all the patches in SuperPatch, this is the one most likely to cause J
Htrouble. If you have trouble with heavy crashing after trying out your O
Mpatched version of AppleWorks, get rid of this one first. When it works, it G
Eseems to work fine all the time, but when it does not, it will crash P
NAppleWorks the first time you try to load in a WP file. There are reports of P
Nfewer problems with this patch when it is used with AW 2.1 than 2.0. Install
at your own risk.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[I] Prevent extra <cr> when printing ASCII files...........(2.0 & 2.1)
M If you develop BASIC code with AppleWorks, you must have a way to write P
Nit as a TXT file, sans the ton of extra carriage returns 2.0 and 2.1 install, K
Iat the end of each line, regardless of whether they were in the original M
Kdocument. Execing a TXT file with these extra carriage returns results in N
Lerrors when a line extends beyond the extra inserted carriage return. This O
Mpatch will enable you to do it without the errors, but it messes up the Mail K
IMerge function, and the patched copy of AW will _always_ write TXT files N
Lwithout any extra carriage returns. Many telecommunications packages, such M
Kas Point-To-Point, benefit from having them added. Beagle makes a TimeOut J
Hmodule (AWP to TXT) which does not mess up Mail Merge and does the same O
Mthing, and still allows the same copy of AppleWorks to print ASCII files the K
Iother way as well, and writes the TXT file much quicker than AppleWorks, M
Kpatched or unpatched, can write it. Clearly Beagle offers the best way to N
Laccomplish this task, in their PowerPac package, and I respectfully suggest G
Ethat anyone who has much need of this patch to look into that set of
accessories.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[J] Eliminate extra space in TXT files > 61 characters.....(2.0 & 2.1)
D Eliminates the annoying break when AW loads in a TXT file with N
Ldecorative divisions or headers longer than 61 characters. If you use this K
Ipatch, issue an "unjustified" command at the top of the file after it is P
Nloaded, which will cause all the necessary word wraps to be made. This patch E
messes some of them up, but the "unjustified" command repairs them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[K] Change arrows to checkmarks in file selection menus....(2.0 & 2.1)
KCosmetic completion of other similar patch made to APLWORKS.SYSTEM. Looks N
Lnice, and in combination with the other patch seems to cause every printing N
Lof the arrow to the screen to become a checkmark, including those instances <
where TimeOut applications would normally print the arrow.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[L] Double underline column titles in DB reports...........(2.0 & 2.1)
Changes screen and printed output. Nice touch.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[M] Change column overflow in SS to '#' or '|'.............(2.0 & 2.1)
Cosmetic change.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[N] Blank cells instead of 'NA' in SS......................(2.0 & 2.1)
Cosmetic change.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[O] Change 'Carefully' to 'Carelessly'.....................(2.0 & 2.1)
I Garth Shultz's favorite patch, via various Beagle Bros manuals, and P
Nadapted to SuperPatch by Garth himself. Adds a touch of humor to go with our M
"drab, non-mousified" version of AppleWorks. (God save us from the mouse.)
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
SuperPatch: SEG.PR patchO
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[A] Print half-height characters w/o custom printer........(2.0 & 2.1)
N This patch only works if you are using an ImageWriter II, which I do not K
Ipossess. My friend DipSwitch (Garth Shultz, of Custom Printer fame) has P
Ntested the patch thoroughly on his IW2, and reports that it works just fine. O
MI would guess that, if you use more than one printer, and one of them is not O
Man IW2, then you would need to set the extras up as custom printers, so that P
NAW does not send the standard code for sub and superscripting (which you have L
Jpatched special for the IW2) to the other printer(s). There is no better J
Hutility for having more than one custom printer, by the way, than Dip's O
MCustom Printer, which he just updated for AW 2.1. However, if you have only J
Hone printer, and it is an ImageWriter II, then this patch will make its M
printouts nicer, without the necessity of dealing with any custom printers.
